About Shelaine Strom
At age 18 I made a decision to become a Christ follower, a choice that continues shaping how I live and love and work and play 37 years later. In that time, God has given me countless opportunities to walk alongside others and help them navigate life transitions.
Few things bring me more satisfaction than knowing I have been present to someone who is seeking to increase their self-awareness and God-awareness, as I see those two areas closely intertwined and necessary for healing and wholesome living. I have found this to be true in my own life.
I am a story teller with my own account of transition. Intense physical pain due to a broken-down jaw led to five years of leaning hard into the Lord for strength and understanding. The pain required me to quit working as a career and life coach, trainer and speaker because these relied too heavily on talking. I found myself tucked away at home for over two years, waiting for surgery, wondering how God wanted to use my time.
And God is good. He came near and met me in the midst of the pain and suffering, giving me hope and a new purpose through writing. I had lost my ability to speak but He gave me a new voice.
In May 2014, I received two replacement jaw joints and began the healing and rehabilitation leg of the journey.
January 2016 marked the time to move forward and take up my calling again to walk with people who desire to know themselves and God in deeper ways in the specifics of their day or the story of their lives. Little did I know that God had an additional plan. In April 2016, I joined Food for the Hungry as the National Education Lead. I continue that work, as well as coaching, today. January 18, 2021 marked the launch of a new venture. I have the privilege of co-hosting a podcast called Ending Poverty Together. Have a listen here: https://www.fhcanada.org/podcast/ or on Spotify or Apple Podcasts.
I have a BA in Social Sciences from Trinity Western University and over 20 years of coaching individuals and facilitating groups. I am also a writer, who has been married to Bill for over three story-filled decades. We have three young adult sons, three lovely young women, and one precious grandson in our family.
